The State of Ohio’s Auditors, the Enumeration of Population, and the Project of Eugenics.Cameron Graham, Martin E. Persson, Vaughan S. Radcliffe & Mitchell J. Stein - 2022 - Journal of Business Ethics 187 (3):565-587.
In 1856, the State of Ohio began an enumeration of its population to count and identify people with disabilities. This paper examines the ethical role of the accounting profession in this project, which supported the transatlantic eugenics movement and its genocidal attempts to eliminate disabled persons from the population. We use a theoretical approach based on Levinas who argued that the self is generated through engagement with the Other, and that this engagement presupposes a responsibility to and for the Other. Mischievous responders: data quality lessons learned in mental health research.Morgan E. Browning, Sidney L. Satterfield & Elizabeth E. Lloyd-Richardson - forthcoming - Ethics and Behavior.
Internet recruitment methods for research are rapidly evolving as technology and participant preferences do as well. This brings data security concerns, balanced with respect to persons for research participants. Internet recruitment research strategies are still important given the importance of creating private and accessible pathways for potentially marginalized populations or people experiencing stigmatized mental health conditions to participate in research. This manuscript describes the case of social media recruitment for a mental health and racism study in Fall 2022 that was (...)

Monkeys in space: Primate neural data suggest volumetric representations.Sidney R. Lehky, Anne B. Sereno & Margaret E. Sereno - 2013 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 36 (5):555-556.
The target article does not consider neural data on primate spatial representations, which we suggest provide grounds for believing that navigational space may be three-dimensional rather than quasi–two-dimensional. Furthermore, we question the authors' interpretation of rat neurophysiological data as indicating that the vertical dimension may be encoded in a neural structure separate from the two horizontal dimensions.

Advances in peer review research: an introduction.Arthur E. Stamps Iii - 1997 - Science and Engineering Ethics 3 (1):3-10.
Peer review is a topic of considerable concern to many researchers, and there is a correspondingly large body of research on the topic. This issue of Science and Engineering Ethics presents recent work on peer review that is both grounded in empirical science and is applicable to policy decisions. This research raises two basic questions; (a) how does current peer review operate, and (b) how can it be improved? Topics addressed include descriptions of how peer review is used in Federal (...)
